Surf trip to the Mentawais
Growing up on the Gold Coast, surfing is a very large part of life for many children and I was no exception.
I remember my mother saying to me when I was eating breakfast to slow down and to eat slowly. She would say, “the surf isn’t going anywhere’”, but she was wrong because the ten o’clock onshore wind would arrive and I had to get out before then.
When at uni, I remember studying while my mates would go surfing (which I found very hard to take), but now I have embedded myself, with my accounting practice, in the surfing industry here on the coast with a number of board manufacturers who I call friends and clients.
I think it has been a natural progression into a business opportunity!
If you click on the image above of me surfing in the Mentawais earlier this year, it will take you to a video. It was an incredible experience to surf some of the world’s best waves, but I’m still very happy to call Mermaid Beach ‘my local’.
