Why good employee records are essential

In order to raise awareness of record-keeping obligations for employers, the Fair Work Ombudsman has issued a reminder to businesses informing them of the importance of keeping good employee records.

It has been noticed that many employers are continuing to issue pay slips without the required information and failing to keep correct employee records.

To educate employers about their responsibilities and how the Fair Work Ombudsman can assist them in complying with workplace laws, Fair Work inspectors are doing site visits to 350 businesses throughout NSW, VIC, QLD, TAS and the ACT.

The inspectors will ask the employers selected for auditing to discuss their record-keeping and payslip practices. Where non-compliance is identified, the businesses will receive assistance.
